SOCIAL JUSTICE
Kol Dorot’s Social Action Committees is a wonderful group of members who come together with open hearts to support those in need. Our mission is deeply rooted in the concept of Tikkun Olam, the beautiful idea of repairing the world. At the core of our beliefs is the understanding that each of us holds a personal and communal responsibility to uplift others, and throughout the year, we engage in various activities to do just that.
No specific skills are required to join the Social Action Committee—just a genuine desire to contribute to a brighter world. While our group typically includes adults of all ages, we warmly welcome younger members too. As an added bonus, joining us offers the opportunity to forge new friendships and connect with like-minded individuals who share your passion for making a positive difference.
The Social Action Committee engages in numerous activities, events, and drives throughout the year. Some examples include
-
High Holiday Food Drive, in collaboration with Women of Kol Dorot
-
Just One More Thing: monthly food pantry collections benefiting the Helping Hands food pantry in Hillsdale
-
Family Promise Walk-in Dinner Program twice yearly
-
raising money for Journey For The Living, a fundraiser to bring holocaust education into schools
-
Coat Drives
-
Toiletry Drives
-
Ongoing Clothing Drive
-
Family Promise Hike for Hope
-
Participation in the Bergen Jewish Social Justice Alliance
Activities take place on site at Kol Dorot and off-site depending on what we’re doing. The repository for all collections and drives is the lower lobby of the Kol Dorot building.
We meet monthly at 7pm via Zoom.
Whether you want to be involved once or on an ongoing basis, we’d love to have you. Please reach out to Karen Lerman for more information, karenesilver@yahoo.com.
